4 family members get jail, whipping for rape of relative

Heinous act of grandfather, father and two uncles was exposed after a medical check-up on the 19-year-old girl revealed she was 25 weeks pregnant.

KOTA SAMARAHAN: Four members of a family were today sentenced to a total of 105 years by the Sessions Court here for the rape of a 19-year-old female relative in Kampung Daha Seroban, Serian.

Judge Marutin Pagan handed down the jail sentences on the four accused – comprising the victim’s grandfather, father and two uncles, aged 26 and 28 – after they pleaded guilty to the charges, reported Bernama.

Marutin sentenced the grandfather, aged 57, who was charged with six counts of raping the girl, to 25 years’ jail on each count, and 24 strokes of the cane, while the father, aged 42, to 25 years’ jail each on two counts of raping her and 24 strokes of the cane.

One of the uncles was sentenced to 25 years’ jail and 24 strokes of the cane on one count of raping the girl, while the other uncle was sentenced to 19 years’ jail and 24 strokes of the cane for raping the girl and 30 years’ jail for raping her younger sister.

They were all ordered to serve the jail sentences concurrently from the date of their arrest.

According to Bernama, the four men were arrested at their house in Serian on Aug 11 after police received a report that the 19-year-old girl had been raped for the past six years.

The heinous act of the four men was exposed after a medical check-up on the girl found that she was 25 weeks pregnant.

They were charged under Section 376B(1) of the Penal Code, which provides for imprisonment of up to 30 years and whipping, if found guilty.

The prosecution was conducted by deputy public prosecutor Nor Azhari Yusof, while all the accused were unrepresented. -FMT
