The riot at the "Nothing to Hide 2" forum on Sunday is a sign of possible future violence should Prime Minister Najib Abdul Razak lose the next general election, alleged Dr Mahathir Mohamad.
"I hope this won't happen, I hope we will have proper elections, but we must be prepared for this possibility.
"We don't want to see our country in chaos," he said in a video uploaded on Facebook.
Mahathir said he feared if Najib is defeated in the polls, the latter “would instigate a riot” to pave the way for a state of emergency to be declared.
Chaos erupted during the forum last Sunday as Mahathir was answering a question on the Memali tragedy.
Slippers were thrown at his direction, and soon chairs, bottles and even flares were flying in the Dewan Raja Muda Musa, leading to scuffles which spilled outside of the hall.
Asked if he thought the suspected troublemakers were Umno members, the Bersatu chairperson said he did not know, but said it was possible.
What he is confident of, however, was that they were supporters of Najib.
"They were trying to support Najib by ending our forum so that Najib was saved," he said.
The forum was pitched as a duel of words between Najib and Mahathir, in which both men could grill each other on various allegations of misconduct.
