Kelantan PKR chief: Political appointees to retain their positions

Kelantan PKR today confirmed that all of the party’s political appointees in the state will retain their positions on grounds that Menteri Besar Ahmad Yakob had previously said their cooperations are still needed by his PAS-led administration.

In a statement, PKR Kelantan state leadership council chairperson Abdul Aziz Abd Kadir said the party’s central political bureau which met last night had also agreed to retain him in his current position.

“I had together with other PKR Kelantan leaders including the state youth chief and women’s wing chief attended the central political bureau meeting on Aug 15.

“The political bureau was informed and given an explanation of the current political scenario in Kelantan,” he said.

Based on the explanations given, Aziz said the PKR central political bureau led by party president Dr Wan Azizah Wan Ismail had then reached a decision on both matters.

“I thank the president and central political bureau for giving me the trust to continue leading Kelantan PKR.

“We will remain committed to strengthen PKR’s position in Kelantan in order to face the 14th general election,” he said.

On May 16, Wan Azizah had instructedall of the party’s political appointees in the PAS-led state to resign, following termination of the cooperation between the two parties.

Wan Azizah at the time gave them until the end of July to resign but none of the appointees had turned in their resignation letters after the deadline had lapsed.

On Aug 10, she explained that the appointees were still waiting for their reimbursements to be paid by their state government, as they had been providing aid to their respective constituencies out of their own pockets.

Kelantan PAS, in response, denied that the state government had withheld reimbursements owed to 75 PKR political appointees in the state. - Mkini
