Ku Li: Opposition’s attacks on Najib won’t affect BN

Enggang: Tengku Razaleigh Hamzah (Ku Li) is living in dreamland. He says opposition 'attacks' on PM Najib Razak "will not affect" his party BN.

I suppose he's referring to the next GE which must be called within a year or less. What has become of this used-to-be upright leader? He has now become a strong supporter of MO1 (Malaysian Official 1).

The latter has earned infamy the world over and has been called a kleptocratic leader by US Department of Justice. Any Malaysian who openly condones MO1's involvement in the alleged theft of billions from 1MDB is guilty of complicity in a serious financial crime.

The right thing for Ku Li to do is to disassociate himself from MO1. We know why he's reluctant to do this - his disdain to be on the same side as former PM Dr Mahathir Mohamad, his long-time foe.

For the sake of the rakyat, I think Ku Li should reconsider his stand, and do the right thing before he retires from politics.

Doc: I totally agree with Ku Li. The issues of gross mismanagement of the Malaysian economy and outright corruption allegedly involving Najib personally, his family members, his administration, his cronies and his fellow Umno party members highlighted by the opposition along with the effects of this mishaps that are being felt by the Malaysia people in the form of massive rise in cost the of living and the reduction of essential services to the people in the form of health care, education, subsidies, etc, is certainly making the Malaysian people super angry with Najib and his administration.

But come election time, after being fed on a steady stream of lies by Umno, Najib and BN and the nation’s woes being blamed on the opposition, Christians, Jews and Chinese plus declaring that Allah the Almighty has decided to support Najib and Umno; Malaysian stupidity will set in as it has always done in all elections since 1969, and they will head to the polls and cross the "dacing" again.

Spinnot: Indeed, Ku Li has a point. Before 1MDB, BN has a long list of financial scandals in the past - Port Klang Free Zone, Malaysian Airlines (MAS) privatisation, Perwaja Steel, Bank Negara forex losses, Maminco, BMF, etc, yet "people were not easily influenced by the issues" and they kept returning BN to power.

Anonymous 2436471476414726: This BN government is terribly corrupt, dishonest, deceitful, wasteful and utterly insensitive to the plight of the poor.

The nation is heavily in debt, no thanks to the 1MDB scandal and mega projects implemented at astronomical prices. Taxes upon taxes are being levied on us to help pay the debts.

On the other hand, subsidies on basic consumer items are being withdrawn simply because the government coffers are fast depleting.

At the same time, we see our PM and his family living a luxurious life and using government jets on holidays like nobody’s business.

Ku Li, those are more than enough reasons for the people to reject BN. Your days are numbered, not unless you cheat in the election, aided by the Election Commission.

Victor Johan: Razaleigh, you are the Gua Musang Umno division chief, so obviously you will say that "BN had its own strengths since long ago and had never been threatened, despite facing various issues ahead of the general election."

Since the 2008 and 2013 general elections have not awakened you, be prepared for GE14 to see Umno and BN reduced to becoming the new opposition parties and we will see from then on, the new opposition leader Najib before the court begins its trials on corruption charges and many more. We await.

Clever Voter: Ku Li has overstayed his welcome. He could have made the difference where it matters but chose the easy path to enjoy his afternoon teas and scones.

Mahathir was right in his decision to leave him behind. In recent years, Ku Li’s speeches were spot on but they remained words and not actions.

He is wrong. The GE is within the grasp of an alternative government no longer opposition as time passes, and Pakatan Harapan makes inroads into heartlands of Umno. Gua Mustang is one of the places time has also stood still. What more can we say?

Once touted to be the next best PM material, he has proven to possess no real conviction of his own. More of a fake, actually.

NNFC: Razaleigh is so distant from the people that he does not feel their pain, daily struggles and their frustration with the current government. It is time for him to retire gracefully.

Goldee: It’s a waste of public funds to set up a royal commission of inquiry (RCI) on the forex losses which happened more than 20 years ago. If it was discovered that the truth was concealed from the public then not only Dr M is guilty but all his cabinet members are as guilty.

The more pressing issue is about 1MDB and this is not addressed. The current regime is clearly trying to divert public attention from this scandal.

NNFC: Malaysians know that this is a distraction created to steer people away from the huge crimes of 1MDB.

It is a sham and is intended to weaken the opposition's push to get rid the current government's hold on Malaysian politics where crimes committed by Umno leaders are not even investigated. We stand united and will fight to the end.

Anonymous 2465861491622056: Why do other RCI members keep quiet when one of them misbehaves because he thinks he is in court. The reputation of the RCI is tarnished.

I suggest they resign if this is the way the RCI is going to be conducted.

Worried Sick: Yes, if this is how the members of the RCI behave, then I think the Malaysian public will have scant regard for them and will dismiss their findings as a political sham.

The RCI must be fair and cannot treat lawyers representing their clients with such contempt.
