PAS Kedah has denied any cooperation with Pakatan Harapan to face the looming 14th national polls, saying such claims only confuse the rakyat.
The party's state commissioner Dr Ahmad Fakhrudin Sheikh Fakhrurazi said such claims include political statements claiming a chummy Umno-PAS link or those carrying strong remarks from Harapan about PAS.
Other than confusing the people, Ahmad said these remarks were an attempt to undermine PAS supporters' confidence towards their leaders.
"At the same time, the two political blocs (BN and Harapan) try to seize PAS members and supporters who are now dominant among the Malays," Ahmad said in a statement.
Ahmad found it amusing that a news portal in its recent report said that PAS Kedah was considering working with Harapan when the latter is still "trapped by many issues".
These issues, he added, include election machinery preparation, the number of branches of component parties, grassroots support and its registered status, which is "still unclear".
"There are often conflicting statements between component party leaders which add to the chaotic situation," Ahmad quipped.
Ahmad was referring to a report by The Malaysian Insight last week that the three states were seeking approval to engage with Harapan to avoid multi-cornered fights in the coming general election which will benefit BN.
After cutting ties with Harapan, PAS formed its own bloc with Gagasan Sejahtera, while DAP and PKR forged an alliance with Parti Amanah Negara, a PAS splinter group, and Parti Pribumi Bersatu Malaysia (Bersatu), formed by disgruntled Umno members led by former premier Dr Mahathir Mohamad.
The report also stated that former Kedah menteri besar Mukhriz Mahathir, who is also Bersatu deputy president, and Selangor Menteri Besar Azmin Ali, have expressed willingness to work out some form of cooperation or coordination with PAS.
Ahmad said Bersatu must have the courage to state its position and strength in facing the national polls, which is expected to be called by July next year.
"We do not deny they do have a following among the Malay voters".
Ahmad said PAS Kedah had been consistent in its stand to strengthen the Gagasan Sejahtera bloc, adding it has no links with BN or Harapan.
"This stand is in line with the party's Syura (Ulamak) Council that we should not have any political cooperation with BN, Harapan or Parti Amanah Negara or their allies," Ahmad added.
"Up to now, PAS Kedah is prepared to contest all state and Parliament seats and it is up to our central leadership to decide the number of seats for PAS Kedah in the coming GE14," Ahmad stressed. - Mkini
