The decision by the Penang High Court to overturn the remand order against the state executive councillor Phee Boon Poh has jeopardised the ongoing investigation, said the Malaysian Anti-Corruption Commission (MACC).
This graft-buster has given this as one of the grounds in its plan to appeal against the court's ruling.
"MACC looks at the matter seriously because the decision has jeopardised the investigation process carried out by the investigation team which was aggressively completing the investigation paper against Phee and two other suspects," said MACC in a statement today.
"We respect Penang High Court's decision which overturned the five-day remand order against Phee, together with the factory director and manager.
"However, we are not happy with the Judicial Commissioner Abdul Wahab Mohamed's decision and we will file an appeal at the Court of Appeal."
The MACC on Friday arrested Phee for allegedly directing a local council not to take action against the illegal factory which produces carbon filters.
George Town Magistrate's Court assistant registrar granted a five-day remand on the trio.
They were released today after successfully challenging the remand order.
According to the MACC, they are suspected of being involved in operating illegal factory at an agriculture land in Sungai Lembu, Penanti. - Mkini
