If Selangor PAS insists on contesting the bulk of the seats in the state legislative assembly in the upcoming general election, they are going to lose support, said PKR president Dr Wan Azizah Wan Ismail.
“If their stance is viewed to be supportive of Umno, they tend to lose more seats (and support) from (not just) non-Malays, but also from Malays,” she told journalists after attending a forum on China’s investments in Malaysia at the Kuala Lumpur and Selangor Chinese Assembly Hall (KLSCAH) last night.
Selangor PAS commissioner Sallehen Mukhyi said yesterday that the estranged opposition party was capable of fielding 42 candidates in the 56-seat state legislative assembly and was ready to clash with BN as well as its former allies.
However, he added that the number of candidates the party will actually field would be determined by the PAS central committee.
Sallehen also confirmed that his party intends to contest in Gombak, a parliament seat held by PKR deputy president and Selangor Menteri Besar Mohamed Azmin Ali.
When asked about this, Wan Azizah questioned whether PAS truly has the intention to topple BN.
“It looks like they are not serious (about wanting) to topple BN,” she said.
In the 2013 general election, PAS fielded candidates in 21 state seats in Selangor and won 15. Despite having cut ties with allies PKR and DAP, it remains part of the state government. -Mkini
