GEORGE TOWN: The sister-in-law of Penang Chief Minister Lim Guan Eng has fallen victim to a smash-and-grab robbery at her house in Minden Heights, Gelugor.
The woman, who is a doctor in her late 40s, was alone in the car when the armed man broke the window of the passenger seat and grabbed her bag at 8.15pm on Monday.
When contacted, Guan Eng’s sister Hui Ying (pic) said her sister-in-law was just returning from work when the incident happened.
“She opened the automatic gate and was about to park her car when the man, wearing a full-face helmet, suddenly pounced on her.
“He took the bag placed on the floor on the passenger seat and fled. She lost her personal documents, a mobile phone and some cash.
“We believe an accomplice was waiting for him,” she said.
A police source said they were still tracking down the suspects and urged those with information to contact the nearest police station.
In an unrelated case, police said they were looking for two men who tried to pry open an automated teller machine (ATM) of a bank in Jelutong at about 7.15am yesterday.
“Although they failed to get their hands on the money, we are still looking for them.”
