Abang Jo: Sarawak is holding firm to its rights

Chief Minister Abang Johari Openg (left) at the town hall session with the rakyat.
KUCHING: Chief Minister Abang Johari Openg said Sarawakians will remain firm in protecting their rights and privileges.
He stressed that they will not give in just because the Malaysia Agreement 1963 (MA63) steering committee has been given a period of six months to present its final report.
“Only Sarawakians can determine the rights and future of Sarawak,” he said at the Gabungan Parti Sarawak (GPS) town hall session here yesterday.
“To me, the six-month period is not enough, especially as there are new things being brought up in the meeting. We’ll see how it goes,” he said.
Earlier, Abang Johari also stressed the importance of integrity among GPS leaders.
He pointed out that the downfall of a government is usually caused by the lack of integrity among leaders.
Asking for handouts or money in return for serving the party is unacceptable and considered as a form of bribery, he said.
“It does not count as a political struggle.
“We are fighting for the betterment of our state and people,” he said, adding that leaders, through GPS, are capable of providing the people with a better life.
He said the rakyat had given them the mandate to regain their rights, which have been eroded after 55 years in Malaysia.
“We want to protect our rights, and that is why we have laid down four non-negotiable issues — autonomy in terms of immigration; the right to enforce state law in accordance with the Federal Constitution; state border protection; and sovereignty over the sea, underground and its resources in the state.” - FMT

  1. What a bull "we want to protect our right". For 55 yrs under Taib Mahmud under BN nobody is protecting Sarawak interest. All we know is they are protecting their personal interest. What a hyprocrite!
