ACCUSED OF CORRUPT INTENT, BERSATU MAN GIVES RIDICULOUS EXCUSE: SCHOOLBAGS WITH MY FACE A PRINTING ERROR, CLAIMS SELANGOR ASSEMBLYMAN

PETALING JAYA – A Selangor PPBM leader has cleared the air over the controversy of his picture being printed on backpacks distributed to schools in his constituency.
Jeram assemblyman Mohd Shaid Rosli said the move – criticised online as being similar to what Barisan Nasional politicians did during school visits – was a “misunderstanding” between him and the printing company in China.
Shaid, who is the PPBM Selangor chairman, said he had no intention of putting his face on the backpacks but it was too late when he found out the printing “error” after the backpacks were delivered.
“I ordered the bags while I was in China. It was an old order, made four months ago.
“We wanted something different but when the backpacks arrived, it was too late,” he told FMT today.
Galen Centre for Health and Social Policy CEO Azrul Mohd Khalib had criticised Shaid and asked if he thought this was an election campaign.
“Stop this. If you want to give these students school bags, just give it. Don’t put your name and face on it,” the head of the think tank said on Facebook.
Shaid said he would not apologise as he had not broken any law and denied he was seeking popularity in giving out the schoolbags.
He confirmed that 1,000 schoolbags had been ordered and distributed to five schools in the Jeram constituency.
