Bersatu shortlists five candidates for Semenyih polls

KLANG: Parti Pribumi Bersatu Malaysia (Bersatu) has shortlisted five candidates including a woman for the upcoming Semenyih by-election.
Selangor Bersatu chief Abdul Rashid Asari said the names have been sent to the Bersatu leadership to be finalised, adding that a meeting will be held soon about this.
“They all have high academic achievements and are known to residents and local non-governmental organisations as well,” he added.
However he said it is subject to the approval of leaders, including Prime Minister Tun Dr Mahathir Mohamed.

“If our leaders have choices of their own, we are ready to accept that as well,” said Rashid.

He said the names will be announced two days before nomination day at a special event.
Abdul Rashid said this after attending a grant handover ceremony in Kampung Delek with Selangor Mentri Bsar Amirudin Shari on Friday (Jan 25).
Amirudin said Abdul Rashid will lead Pakatan Harapan’s machinery for the by-election, adding that work to set up the machinery is underway.
The nomination date has been set for Feb 16, while polling date is on March 2.
The Selangor seat fell vacant following the death of assemblyman Bakhtiar Mohd Nor on Jan 11 from a heart attack. He was 57.
In GE14, Bakhtiar defeated candidates from Barisan, PAS and Parti Sosialis Malaysia (PSM) in a four-cornered fight, with a majority of 8,964 votes. He garnered 23,428 votes.- Star
