Bersih: Haul up Bob Manolan if he threatened Tok Batin

PKR senator Bob Manolan Mohd should be hauled up under Section 9 of the Election Offences Act 1954 if he had indeed threatened Orang Asli village chiefs in Cameron Highlands, Bersih chairperson Thomas Fann (above) said.
“If this was said by the senator, he needs to be hauled up under Section 9 for undue influence. I hope the Tok Batin (chiefs) or members of the public will make a police report so that he will be investigated.
“Pakatan Harapan also has to disown what he said and impose party discipline on him.
“A strong message must be sent that such mindsets must be rejected,” he told Malaysiakini when contacted today.
He was responding to a Malaysiakini report earlier today that quoted the senator as threatening the Tok Batin that they could lose their posts and salaries if they did not support the incumbent government.
Several of the village chiefs have responded by condemning Bob Manolan’s statement as demeaning to them.
PKR president Anwar Ibrahim said that there was no coercion in a democracy and told Bob Manolan (below) to explain his statement immediately.
Election Commission chairperson Azhar Harun has appealed for witnesses to the senator’s speech to come forward and lodge a report.
He also urged those campaigning in the by-election to be mindful of the Election Offences Act.
Bob Manolan has claimed that his statement had been misinterpreted.
Nomination day for the Cameron Highlands by-election is tomorrow with polling set for Jan 26. - Mkini
