FORMER lawmaker Tamrin Ghafar is currently being questioned by police over a blog post on Sultan Muhammad V, who abdicated yesterday.
Tamrin said officers from Bukit Aman requested his presence at the police headquarters for questioning over his post “Antara King Edward VIII dan Sultan Muhammad V” (Between King Edward VIII and Sultan Muhammad V).
The article suggested that Sultan Muhammad V of Kelantan abdicated just as Edward VIII did after marrying an American socialite and divorcee.
Tamrin had referred to news reports last month by foreign media, as well as photos and videos of the sultan’s marriage to a former Russian model while he took leave as Yang di-Pertuan Agong for two months for purported medical reasons.
“The police wish to take my statement in connection with my writing,” the son of former deputy prime minister Ghafar Baba said in a statement.
The article no longer appears on his blog.
Muhammad V is the first king in Malaysia to abdicate. The royal statement yesterday which announced the decision did not state the reason.
