CELEBRITY chef Redzuawan Ismail today apologised to Najib Razak after threatening to slap the former prime minister for state planter Felda’s financial troubles, but he stood by his scathing comments against Najib.
“To DS Najib this morning, I apologise openly for the coarse language that I used when I was at my angriest!
“But if we make a big mistake, we must swallow our pride to admit our mistakes as I have done this morning. Yes, I admit I was wrong when I was possessed by the devil and got angry!” Redzuawan said on his Instagram account today.
But the chef popularly known as Chef Wan stood by his criticisms against Najib and Barisan Nasional (BN), and that the apology did not meant what he had said was factually incorrect.
“Yes, I do not want to be an ungrateful human being, not to also appreciate his bits and pieces of contribution to this nation,” he added.
Redzuawan had received brickbats on social media after his statement yesterday, with some threatening a boycott on his Astro Go page where he is a brand ambassador.
He had yesterday said he wanted to slap Najib and former Felda chairman Isa Samad for letting the agency get into a financial mess.
“How could you let Felda be mismanaged like that? Come on, you put Isa Samad up there, knowing all that he had done before.
“If I had him (Isa) here, I would slap him, and I would slap Najib,” he told reporters after a cooking programme for Felda settlers in Cameron Highlands.
He added that as a former Felda settler himself, he hopes others are aware of the damage inflicted on the group by the previous BN government.
“Before the 13th general election, my mother got RM5,000. Felda settlers, too, got RM5,000. Of course they (settlers) believed it was good, but how could they (BN government) have given the money when Felda was in financial difficulty?”
The state planter is now being investigated by the Dr Mahathir government for the excesses under BN rule and losses from its various ventures.
Isa has been charged in court for corruption and faces civil suits from Felda Global Ventures Bhd, a listed unit linked to Felda.
