JOHOR BARU – A local DAP leader has accused Pakatan Harapan’s top leadership of being plagued by the “denial syndrome” and allowing the old Umno political culture to creep into its own rank and file.
Dr Boo Cheng Hau said reforms must not only be seen to be done, but it must manifestly be seen to be done.
He made his comments following the appointment of the wife of the Prime Minister’s political secretary, Junaidah Kiting, as Amanah Ikhtiar Malaysia’s chairperson.
“Pakatan under the present Prime Minister has seen the old Barisan and Umno ways creeping into its culture and policies.
“Cronyism creeps in a more sophisticated form into Pakatan and the powers-that-be,” he said in a statement posted on his Facebook.
Dr Boo, who is a former Skudai assemblyman, said admitting there was cronyism would be the first step towards reforming the economic model.
“Pakatan top leadership has shown a less-than-satisfactory commitment to stamping out cronyism.
“Please revive the promises that no political figures or their political allies or relatives should ever be appointed to head or be part of government-linked company (GLC) management,” he added.
Dr Boo said those who had already been appointed should relinquish their appointments on the grounds of reforms and “conflict of interest”.
He added that the top management of GLCs should be headed and manned by non-political professionals in the transitional process of restructuring them until the realisation of an anti-monopoly legislation and a free race-blind market was created.
