Mahathir is said to have cost Malaysia at least RM200 billion, now worth RM440 billion in today’s purchasing power. Yes, that is what it is, RM440 billion compared to 1MDB’s RM42 billion. But still Kit Siang and DAP have no problems working with Mahathir in spite of that RM440 billion. But, according to Dennis Ignatius, it is wrong for Hadi and PAS to work with Umno.
THE CORRIDORS OF POWERS
Raja Petra Kamarudin
In his article, ‘Hadi, the voice of hypocrisy’, published in Free Malaysia Today, Dennis Ignatius said:
For years Hadi and the whole bunch of PAS and Umno members of Parliament aided and abetted the cover-up of the 1MDB scandal, the biggest scandal in our history. Billions of ringgit of taxpayers’ money, money belonging to the voters of Cameron Highlands, Muslim and non-Muslim, was looted and squandered on high living, debauchery and partying all over the world. Expensive champagne, paid for with taxpayer funds, was flowing in distant playgrounds while the voters in Cameron Highlands had to struggle to earn a decent living.
As a multiracial, non-religious political party, DAP, of course, takes no position on concepts of sin and heavenly reward. Nevertheless, DAP has a far better track record when it comes to integrity, justice and public service than religiously-inclined parties like Umno and PAS. Indeed, it was this commitment to integrity, justice and public service that led DAP on a long and lonely quest to expose the 1MDB scandal while Umno and PAS were doing their best to cover it up or look the other way.
Is Hadi so blinded by his disdain for non-Malays and non-Muslims that he’d rather have a corrupt and discredited Malay-Muslim party in power than a clean and honest coalition of Muslims and non-Muslims in office?
Dennis Ignatius, DAP’s and Pakatan Harapan’s spin-doctor
That is just a part of what Dennis Ignatius wrote (you can read the full article HERE). Nevertheless, just those three paragraphs are enough for me to respond to his allegations and declarations.
First of all, a Christian like Dennis Ignatius can never accept a Muslim leader like Tok Guru Abdul Hadi Awang and an Islamic party like PAS. Hence, in this instance, Dennis Ignatius is speaking from a non-neutral stance and is highly biased and prejudiced against PAS.
For generations, Christians in Malaysia consider themselves oppressed and Dennis Ignatius is no different. That is why they would look for any excuse to whack Malays, Muslims and Islam. And in Dennis Ignatius’s article, ‘Hadi, the voice of hypocrisy’, this is precisely the case.
Dennis Ignatius goes on and on about Hadi’s hypocrisy. In fact, the title of the article itself is called ‘Hadi, the voice of hypocrisy’. But is this really what bothers Dennis Ignatius? And is this not what Lim Kit Siang and DAP are guilty of, the same ‘crime’ that Hadi and PAS are supposed to have committed?
The late Nik Aziz Nik Mat said PAS can work with Umno as long as Umno does not oppose Islam
The late Tok Guru Nik Aziz Nik Mat said the only reason PAS opposes Umno is because Umno opposes Islam (and which was why PAS ‘broke away’ from Umno in 1951 in the first place). If Umno can accept Islam then there is no longer any need for PAS to oppose Umno. In fact, PAS can even be closed down and all its members can join Umno, said Nik Aziz.
So, does that solve the ‘mystery’ as to why PAS can now work with Umno?
And let us not forget that Kit Siang proclaimed Nik Aziz as a great, noble and sincere man. So, Kit Siang himself endorsed Nik Aziz and Nik Aziz has already explained very clearly the position of PAS versus Umno. So, what is Dennis Ignatius going on about?
If Hadi is a hypocrite, then what about Kit Siang?
Regarding the issue of 1MDB and Najib Tun Razak, and Umno’s alleged crime regarding 1MDB, is this case not already before the court? Dennis Ignatius has already passed judgment even before the judge has. As an ex-diplomat, does Dennis Ignatius not know the doctrine of innocent until proven guilty? Even Hadi Awang understands this concept.
A few days ago, when asked about Anwar Ibrahim’s sodomy convictions, Tun Dr Mahathir Mohamad replied that it was the judges who convicted and sentenced Anwar to jail. Yes, Mahathir did not convict and sentence Anwar. The court did.
The same goes with the 1MDB case (plus the Tabung Haji, Felda, etc., cases). All these cases are before the courts and the judges have yet to decide whether Najib is guilty of stealing RM42 billion of 1MDB’s money — like Pakatan Harapan alleges. So why is Dennis Ignatius whacking Hadi for this?
If Dennis Ignatius wants to talk about hypocrisy then let us talk about hypocrisy
If it is hypocritical for Hadi and/or PAS to work with Najib and/or Umno mainly because of or due to 1MDB (which is said to be RM42 billion), then what about Kit Siang and DAP working with Mahathir and/or PPBM? Is this not even more hypocritical.
Dennis Ignatius can take his morals and ethics and shove it up where the sun does not shine. He is quick to label Hadi and PAS as hypocrites while his hypocrisy is far worse. Condemn Hadi and PAS if you wish as long as you also condemn Kit Siang and DAP.
Has Dennis Ignatius forgotten where all these PPBM leaders originally came from?
Dennis Ignatius said Hadi would ‘rather have a corrupt and discredited Malay-Muslim party in power than a clean and honest coalition of Muslims and non-Muslims in office.’
Dennis Ignatius’s so-called clean and honest coalition of Muslims and non-Muslims is actually a coalition of ex-Umno and government people who Kit Siang had been condemning for 35 years. These are the same foxes who stole all the chickens and who you have been condemning for decades who you now praise as the defenders of the chickens.
What nonsense is Dennis Ignatius spewing? What comes out from his mouth stinks to high heavens we can smell it all the way from Manchester. Better Dennis Ignatius keep his mouth shut and keep people wondering than open it and prove what people think of him.
