According to sources, Dewan Rakyat secretary Roosme Hamzah will be granted a one-year contract extension.
Roosme, who has been the Lower House secretary since 2007, was due for mandatory retirement on Feb 22.
However, sources said that her contract has been extended to help facilitate Pakatan Harapan's transition of power and the initiation of reforms.
"She served Parliament for a long period and has vast experience and connections. We are going to reform Parliament and it is better to use an incumbent, rather than new people," a source said.
The source added that Roosme was also capable of handling the heavy task of coordinating among all the ministries and departments for parliamentary questions and answers.
"(Furthermore) during the BN era, no successor was trained for the secretary post.
"If we suddenly appoint a person to the job and there is a mistake with the incoming Agong's speech to Parliament, then (the Harapan government) will be blamed," the source said.
The extension is subject to approval from the Public Service Department, but Malaysiakinihas learned that Dewan Rakyat speaker Mohamad Ariff Md Yusof is in support of the move.
Roosme has been a Parliament officer since 2001.
Malaysiakini has contacted Roosme for comment. - Mkini
