Former Council of Eminent Persons (CEP) chairperson Daim Zainuddin has denied that the appointment of his former press secretary Rashid Yusof as the group editor of New Straits Times (NST) demonstrated Pakatan Harapan's intention to take control of the English daily.
"It has nothing to do with me, it's up to the board, it is not for me (to decide)," he told a press conference after attending a dialogue session held at Wisma Perwira Angkatan Tentera Malaysia in Kuala Lumpur.
Daim added that he does not believe that Harapan is taking over the media in terms of press freedom.
Rashid joined NST's parent company, New Straits Times Press Berhad, in September 1986 as a reporter with Malay Mail. He was appointed as NST associate editor in March 2010 and promoted to NST deputy group editor in November 2012.
On Jan 1 this year, h was appointed as NST group editor.
