KUALA LUMPUR – The nation’s top cop today revealed that police have recorded a statement from a former aide-de-camp (ADC) to Najib Razak in its fresh probe into the murder of Mongolian national Altantuya Shaariibuu.
“Yes, yes,” Inspector-General of Police Mohamad Fuzi Harun said when asked if they had taken Musa Safri’s statement.
Fuzi, however, refused to elaborate, saying that the investigation was ongoing.
He was speaking to reporters after attending the “Rondaan Cegah Jenayah Pulapol” policing programme at Berjaya Times Square today.
Musa was Najib’s ADC when the latter was the deputy prime minister.
Altantuya’s father, Setev Shaariibuu, named Musa as a key witness to the events leading to the murder of his daughter, in a police report in June last year, and asked police to question him.
In the police report, Setev said he also wanted police to question one of the two policemen who were found guilty of Altantuya’s murder – Azilah Hadri and Sirul Azhar Umar – to find out how and where they had obtained the explosives that were reportedly used to blow her to bits.
In the police report, Setev said: “During the said trial, the prosecution led evidence that one DSP Musa Safri had secured the attendance of Azilah and Sirul at Razak’s (Abdul Razak Baginda) house on the night of Oct 19, 2006.”
Razak was acquitted of a charge of abetting Azilah and Sirul in the murder of Altantuya in 2006.
A suit filed by Setev and his family against the government, Razak, Azilah and Sirul over the murder of Altantuya is currently underway.
Fuzi also said the police were expected to complete their investigations into the 1MDB corruption scandal by March.
“We want to settle it as soon as possible.
“We will hand over the findings to the Attorney-General’s Chambers for further action once it is done,” he added. – FMT
Najib: I’m surprised people don’t know photo with Altantuya is fake
PETALING JAYA: Former prime minister Najib Razak today said he is surprised that people are unaware that the photograph of him with murdered Mongolian Altantuya Shaariibuu and political analyst Abdul Razak Baginda is fake.
He was referring to testimony in court yesterday by Burmaa Oyunchimeg, a cousin of Altantuya, that she saw a photograph of the trio in Paris in 2005.
However, the Shah Alam High Court heard today the photograph is a fake.
Taking to Facebook, Najib said that PKR vice-president Tian Chua had admitted in the past that it was doctored.
“After admitting that it was a fake at the time, Tian Chua said he never said the photograph on his blog was real and reiterated he was not responsible for its circulation and any assumptions made by any parties regarding it,” he wrote.
In 2007, Tian Chua, who was PKR information head at the time, admitted to doctoring the photograph and published it on his personal blog.
He insisted that he would not apologise or remove it.
Najib, who was then defence minister, also said many still believed that C4 explosives were used to blow up Altantuya’s body.
He said the “truth” was that the forensics team investigating the case had long said the explosive material found at the crime scene was not C4 but PETN and REDX-type explosives used in stone quarries and construction sites.
“It seems that false accusations and propaganda are easier to spread in Malaysia when compared to the truth.- FMT
