‘Forgive Umno, let go of grudges’ - PAS tells its members

PAS central committee member Nik Abduh Nik Abdul Aziz is the latest party leader to throw support behind Barisan Nasional’s candidate Ramli Mohd Nor by participating in the latter's Cameron Highlands by-election campaign trail.
In doing so, the son of PAS’ late spiritual leader advised his party members against holding any grudges they might have against BN as its president Abdul Hadi Awang had done.
"Although he (Abdul Hadi) was sad (about arch rivalry with Umno), (but) when Umno lost (the general election) and its leaders went to apologise to him, he was the first one to make peace with Umno," Nik Abduh said in a speech in front of some 300 people at Dataran Felda Sungai Koyan 1 in Cameron Highlands last night.
"Because we are facing a government that is worse than BN, we need to learn how to open our minds like how our leaders did.
"We are not doing this because we want Putrajaya. But because we want a fresh situation in Malaysia's politics. We want PAS and Umno to be successful, to unite in the name of religion and nation to retake Putrajaya which has been damaged by Harapan," Nik Abduh said.
He cited the viral video of Chief Justice Richard Malanjum, attorney-general Tommy Thomas and activist lawyer Siti Kassim dancing together during a dinner event as an example.
"Judges can not dance in public as it goes against the etiquette of a position that is highly respected.
"Even Umno did not do such things. We can accept if Umno was replaced by a better government. But this government is much worse than Umno," he said in Kelantanese dialect.
PAS and Umno have been working together since the 14th general election, prior to which, the parties were arch rivals.
The Cameron Highlands parliamentary by-election sees a four-cornered fight between BN's Ramli, Pakatan Harapan's M Manogaran, and independent candidates Salehuddin Abd Talib and Wong Seng Yee.
PAS had decided not to field any candidate for this by-election. -Mkini
