PUTRAJAYA: The office of the federal territories minister lodged a report with the Malaysian Anti-Corruption Commission (MACC) today on alleged trespassing on two lots of government land at Medan Imbi, Bukit Bintang.
Zulhazmi Shariff, who is special functions officer to the minister, said this was to enable the commission to investigate any elements of misconduct or abuse of power in the construction of permanent structures at the site.
“It is strange that the Kuala Lumpur City Hall (DBKL) could approve planning (by a company) on land that does not belong to the company or DBKL.
“We feel there were those involved in the process who received rewards from the company or from other quarters,” he told reporters at the MACC headquarters here.
He said the documents handed over to the MACC contained the chronology of the case, the report by DBKL’s department of integrity, and reports and eviction notices issued by the Kuala Lumpur Land and Mines Office.
He said a notice to evict the premises at the site was served to the owner on Jan 3, to no effect.
On Jan 16, Federal Territories Minister Khalid Abdul Samad reportedly said an inquiry by DBKL’s department of integrity found that the land belonged to the Federal Territories Land and Mines Office (Lot 568) and the Federal Territories Land Working Committee under the supervision of the chief secretary to the government (Lot 716).
According to Khalid, the land, totalling 0.14 hectares and valued at nearly RM20 million, was originally a playground with trees. However, it is now the site of a six-storey office building and several fruit stalls.
He said instructions to approve construction of the building, believed to be owned by a local company, were made in 2016, with work completed in February last year. - FMT
