KUALA NERUS: Prime Minister Dr Mahathir Mohamad today urged educators to continue playing their role in fulfilling the government’s goal to produce a generation that is fluent in English.
He said teachers played an important role in shaping the citizens, which was why the government places serious emphasis on education.
“Do not let it become a political issue and deny the people the opportunity to master knowledge due to the political interests of certain groups.
“We need to master English, and I hope educators will give priority to this as it is the language of science and technology.
“Education now will continue to change so that we receive more benefits from our country’s education system,” he said at a gathering with educators in Terengganu here today.
His wife, Dr Siti Hasmah Mohd Ali, was also present, along with Menteri Besar Ahmad Samsuri Mokhtar, Deputy Housing and Local Government Minister Raja Kamarul Bahrin Shah Raja Ahmad and some 1,000 educators. - FMT
