CAMERON POLLS | Khairy Jamaluddin launched another broadside on Lim Guan Eng after the latter chose to focus on the Pahang state government's debt again via an official Ministry of Finance media statement.
"Eve of by-election. D*** move," tweeted the Umno lawmaker this evening.
In his statement earlier today, the finance minister said records showed that in 2014, Pahang's debt amounted to RM2.8 billion and had steadily increased since then.
"Financial records show that the Pahang state government has been continuously spending more than the revenue it receives, or a deficit budget since 2014.
"A continuous budget deficit does not show confidence in their ability to manage development well," he added.
Three days ago, Khairy had criticised Lim for using the Finance Ministry's official Twitter account to issue a political statement regarding Pahang's debt.
The Umno leader said the statement was clearly related to tomorrow's Cameron Highlands by-election.
Urging the minister to be professional, he said Lim, who is also DAP secretary-general, should have utilised the party's social media platforms instead.
Khairy said he also checked the status of Pahang's debt in the auditor-general's report and found that 70 percent of it was related to water.
"This is the same debt settled by the (previous) federal government for Penang (when Lim was chief minister) in the past," he added. - Mkini
