Lim Kit Siang has accused former premier Najib Abdul Razak of hatching a sinister plot to pave his return to power in the next general election.
A key component of this “diabolical and devilish” plan, according to the DAP veteran, is to divert attention from the 1MDB scandal.
“There are people who think we should not talk about Najib now, forget about 1MDB and global kleptocracy, that is why he (Najib) can hope to have a comeback agenda.
“It is a diabolical and devilish plan to tell the people... 'Alright, it (the 1MDB matter) is in court, let the court decide, forget about it and don't talk about it'.
“Malaysians should not fall into this trap,” he told reporters in Cameron Highlands this morning, where he is campaigning for Pakatan Harapan for this Saturday's by-election.
He stressed that Malaysians must continue to be concerned about the issue of kleptocracy and noted how Najib has not raised the 1MDB issue when campaigning for BN.
Responding to a question, Lim said Najib would seek to return as prime minister in the next general election with the help of PAS.
“There will be a union between PAS and Umno as well as secondary parties such as MCA and MIC,” he added.
Due to Lim countering and criticising the former premier on a regular basis, Najib has described the DAP veteran as the “minister of Najib's affairs”.
Commenting on this, the Iskandar Puteri MP said: “I think this is a better title than 'King of Trolls'.”
Last week, Najib, who has become active on social media since his defeat in the last general election, told BN supporters in Felda that he was given the title “King of Trolls”because he battles the Harapan government with facts.
