KUALA LUMPUR: The case of former federal territories minister Tengku Adnan Tengku Mansor, who is facing two charges of receiving bribes totalling RM3 million, will be tried in the High Court.
The prosecution today informed Sessions Court judge Azman Ahmad that the defence’s application to transfer the case from the Sessions Court to the High Court under Section 417 of the Criminal Procedure Code had been allowed.
“The application of the lawyers was allowed by the High Court on Dec 14, 2018. Nevertheless, the defence had not yet received an order for the case to be tried at which High Court,” said deputy public prosecutor Aida Mastura Mohamed Aman.
Lawyer Tan Hock Chuan, who represented Tengku Adnan, 68, confirmed the matter.
Tengku Adnan had also surrendered his passport back to the court, after he was allowed a temporary release of the passport from Dec 12 to enable him to seek treatment in Australia.
The Putrajaya MP was accused of accepting RM2 million Cai Kin Kong through a cheque from Aset Kayamas Sdn Bhd despite knowing that Aset Kayamas, Sinerjuta Sdn Bhd, Fiber Vista Sdn Bhd, Era Ecoland Sdn Bhd, Garuda Searah Sdn Bhd and Ujana Mutiara Sdn Bhd had dealings with his ministry.
Tengku Adnan also claimed trial to two counts of receiving RM3 million from two property developers over the land deals. -FMT
