CAMERON POLLS | Pahang Menteri Besar Wan Rosdy Wan Ismail has urged Chinese voters in Cameron Highlands to support BN candidate Ramli Mohd Nor in the impending by-election on Jan 26.
He told an audience that he does not want to promise anything with regard to Temporary Occupation Licenses (TOL), except that the local farmers’ lot would improve compared to what it is now.
“I hope you all understand that we are all friends. (We) want to help… but (you) too must help. If (we) help each other that’s even better.
“Don’t we all want Cameron Highlands to be good and free from problems? If there are problems, we can talk about it,” he said in a speech at the officiation ceremony for a hall in Tien Hou Temple, Habu, today.
[“Jadi saya harap tuan-tuan faham, kita sama-sama rakan, mahu tolong... tapi (kamu) pun kena tolong, sama-sama (kita) tolong lagi cantik.
“Kan kita mahu Cameron Highlands bagi elok, tiada masalah, kalau ada masalah kita boleh bincang-bincang sikit.”]
The Pahang BN chairperson then said Habu voters must be BN supporters because they had invited him to the function.
“I take it that you will vote for him (Ramli), that’s why you called me to come here today. If you don’t want to vote, why call me?” he said.
Bringing 'profit'
He also urged the voters to take the long view and vote for a candidate who could bring “profit” (untung) for them.
“On Jan 26, think carefully. If you think there is profit here for Cameron Highlands, vote for BN. If you think there will be a loss, never mind, just vote for someone else […]
“But I know that for the Chinese, if there is profit, more business, more economic activity, they will make the right choice,” he added.
He also urged local voters to give face to him so that he could visit Cameron Highlands again after BN had won the by-election.
“Please give him (Ramli) some face, give me some face. There are many issues we can meet about, many issues we can discuss, we can solve […]
“But I don’t want to promise we can solve everything. You have to remember, if I can solve it, no problem! I will help,” he said.
He then urged the audience to vote for BN during polling day on Jan 26 because land matters are under the state government’s jurisdiction.
“Why wouldn’t I help. If you have helped me, we will help each other! It’s not hard!
“On the 26th, when you go to school and take (your ballot paper), think: Can this person help me? This is a land matter. This person (Ramli) can help because land is under the state government.
“Then, cross it! When we win, I will be back,” he said. - Mkini
