THE government must listen to the people as there are still concerns among those in the lower-income group, said Anwar Ibrahim.
“If we listen carefully, we will find fears among them. I recently conducted a survey among 3,000 students during a forum, and found their concerns was tied to unemployment and low wages,” said the PKR president in his New Year’s message today.
He said fishermen, rubber tappers and labourers had similar concerns.
Anwar said Malaysians had demonstrated great resolve to trigger the change in government during the May 9 elections.
“We were able to change governments because we were willing to forgive old scores for a better Malaysia. And it must be stressed that Malaysia is blessed with many natural resources and assets.
“The most important asset of all, however, is its citizens and its pluralistic society that is willing to carry one another through the challenges,” said the Port Dickson MP.
As such, the Pakatan Harapan government must focus its energy to resolve the economic issues together, said Anwar.
Anwar’s warning comes as the Pakatan Harapan government is being assailed by accusations that it has not helped people tackle rising cost of living by failing to fulfil its election pledges.
Among the hot-button issues are the bloc’s failure to do away with study loans, and supposedly ignoring the plight of mostly agricultural rural folk.
Last night, PAS Youth held a demonstration calling on PH to step down for failing to fulfil its pledges.
Recently, Putrajaya announced a special allocation of RM77 million to help Felda settlers.
The Finance Ministry also announced that households earning less than RM3,000 a month will receive RM100 aid for every schooling child from Year One to Form Five.
