The Education Ministry has refuted allegations that the catering costs for students catering contract in government-run boarding schools were slashed.
In a statement today, the ministry said students were all fed based on a menu designed to comply with the Health Ministry's requirements.
Following this, catering contracts were awarded after a competitive bidding and screening process.
The ministry said the value of contracts will be different based on the number of students catered for and the location of the school.
"For example, the higher the number of students, the cheaper the cost of the contract (per head).
"The further the school is from urban centres, the more expensive the contract will be," said the ministry.
Two days ago, former prime minister Najib Abdul Razak wrote on Twitter that the federal government was spending RM14.50 for food per student in boarding schools, down from RM18.
"BN never done so in the past," he wrote.
