CAMERON POLLS | Perak DAP leader Nga Kor Ming today predicted that the winning margin for the Cameron Highlands by-election will only be around 200 votes.
In view of this, Nga urged voters not to support independent candidate Wong Seng Yee, who has earned the moniker "straw hat guy" because of his appearance.
"Straw hat brother is a good person, I respect him. But think about it, can he win? Do our Orang Asli and Malay friends know him?
"If he gets even 200 votes tomorrow, we are done for," he told a ceramah in Bertam Valley this evening.
Wong, a floral farmer, is born and bred in Cameron Highlands. He had gone into this election to use it as a platform to highlight problems faced by the farming community there.
Nga said that although Wong is well-known in the community, voters should use this by-election to prioritise national issues and help the Pakatan Harapan government in its quest to undo the wrongs of the past administration.
"You can tell Wong, we are still good friends, but we are looking at the bigger picture [...] so we must support (Harapan candidate) M Manogaran," said Nga.
"Tomorrow, the margin will be about 200 votes. We cannot split the votes. Thank you straw hat brother. Tomorrow, we will send him two baskets filled with strawberries to thank him. Don't split the votes!"
Nga also urged voters to teach BN and PAS a lesson at the ballot box tomorrow for being "too extreme".
"Every day, they talk about LGBT, women, short skirts. Do they talk policy? No!" said Nga. - Mkini
