PAS to help ex-top cop arrest Harapan's chances in Camerons

CAMERON POLLS | PAS will form a coordination committee to assist the opposition candidate in the Cameron Highlands by-election on Jan 26, according to deputy president Tuan Ibrahim Tuan Man.
He was responding to a question about whether PAS, whose supporters are touted as possible kingmakers for the parliamentary seat, would campaign for the BN candidate.
"Insya-Allah (God willing), the party will form a coordination committee to help the opposition candidate.
“We are confident PAS supporters and the voters in Cameron Highlands will allow BN to retain the seat. This is to strengthen the voice of the opposition,” he told Malaysiakini.
Earlier, BN announced that it would be fielding former Orang Asli top police officer Mohd Ramli Noor.
PAS secretary-general Takiyuddin Hassan and vice-president Iskandar Samad were also present during the announcement.
Harapan's candidate is DAP's M Manogaran, who lost to MIC's C Sivaraajh by a mere 597 votes in the last general election.
Last November, the Election Court nullified the results due to the commission of corrupt practices and ruled that a by-election be held.
During the May 9 national polls, Cameron Highlands witnessed a five-way tussle, in which PAS candidate Wan Mahadir Wan Mahmud bagged 3,587 votes.
The bulk of PAS supporters are located in Jelai - one of two state constituencies which make up the Cameron Highlands parliament seat.
PAS polled about double the amount of votes Harapan did in this area, winning in three of the 12 voting districts in Jelai during the general election.
