Perlis Bersatu to be probed over forgery allegations, says sec-gen

Bersatu will probe alleged wrongdoing involving its Perlis chapter with forged documents being used to claim public funds, Bersatu secretary-general Marzuki Yahya said today.
"We will investigate... I just knew about this when you told me. Give me time to investigate what transpired.
"If there is an integrity issue (with Perlis Bersatu), we will revamp the (state) leadership," he told Malaysiakini, adding that the party would uphold the principles of its struggle.
Even before this, the Bersatu leadership had noticed an issue with the Perlis chapter, Marzuki said without elaborating.
"(With this new issue emerging), we need to study it. If the issue will impact the party, then we will revamp (Perlis Bersatu)," he reiterated.
Earlier today, National Higher Education Fund (PTPN) chairperson Wan Saiful Wan Jan alleged that documents were falsified at Perlis Bersatu to claim hundreds of thousands of ringgit.
His exposé came after Perlis Bersatu removed him as its secretary.
Commenting further, Marzuki said such remarks made him "dizzy."
'Unprofessional act'
Perlis Bersatu Youth chief Syazwan Fahmi, meanwhile, criticised the state leadership's decision to fire Wan Saiful without first obtaining an explanation from him.
"Perlis Bersatu Youth feels this is an unprofessional act," he said in a statement.
As Syazwan (photo) noted, both Bersatu's central leadership and the police need to probe the incident.
"Perlis Bersatu Youth had sent several disciplinary reports to the central leadership, but no stern action was taken against the individual we complained about.
"We hope the Perlis Bersatu leadership can close ranks and reduce politicking among ourselves," his statement read.
Bersatu Youth information chief Hannaan Khairy also pointed out that the state leadership had not consulted the grassroots before firing Wan Saiful.
"There are only three divisions in Perlis. Beside the Arau division (led by state chairperson Amier Hassan), no talks were held with other divisional chiefs and the state youth wing chief," he said.  - Mkini
