Police has arrested the man who was caught on CCTV slapping a female shop assistant in a mini market in Bayan Lepas, Penang.
According to Southwest police chief A Anbalagan, the suspect was detained in  Jalan Nuri Sg Ara, Bayan Lepas.
"The suspect, 47, had an address in Butterworth, is a businessman, married and tested negative for drugs.
"The suspect admitted that he had slapped the victim as he could not control his anger," said Anbalagan.
In the incident that took place at 8.40am on Tuesday, the suspect was caught on CCTV slapping the 29-year-old shop assistant after she told him that he could purchase only two packets of cooking oil instead of three due to limited supply.
He also threatened the woman and told her to "watch out" before leaving the premises.
The recording went viral on social media, sparking hate speech from netizens but Bayan Lepas assemblyperson Azrul Mahathir Aziz said the matter was "not about race but humanity".
