PERAK lawmaker Chong Zemin has lodged a report against MCA for allegedly receiving stolen funds amounting to RM16.5 million.
“Former MCA president Dr Chua Soi Lek has admitted that MCA received the funds from Najib Razak in 2013 and the money is now proven to have originated from 1MDB,” Chong said in a statement today.
The Keranji assemblyman said current president Dr Wee Ka Siong should return the money, failing which he can be investigated under S411 of the Penal Code.
Chong, who is the DAP Perak publicity chief, lodged the report at the Ipoh police headquarters today.
Yesterday, DAP secretary-general and Finance Minister Lim Guan Eng urged the party to come clean on the “ill-gotten” gains it received from BN and return the RM16.5 million.
“Don’t hide and don’t run. You cannot cover it up. So, just return RM16.5 million to 1MDB,” he said.
Wee recently told the party-owned newspaper The Star that he was unaware MCA received money from state investor 1Malaysia Development Bhd, which Najib oversaw.
“As far as I’m concerned, since the day I became deputy president of MCA on December 21, 2013, there is not a single sen received. Before that, I was not privy to such information,” Wee told The Star.
Chua said in his memoir that the party received the amount from Najib prior to the 2013 general election.
