PAKATAN Harapan’s Cameron Highlands candidate M. Manogaran has questioned the bravery of his Barisan Nasional challenger, who was absent from a debate organised by electoral watchdog Bersih 2.0 today.
He said he is disappointed that Ramli Mohd Nor did not show up, and wants to know why.
“I want to know from the BN candidate what his stand is on the issues that were raised today at the debate.
“I feel that Ramli is not brave enough to come forward and debate, and face the people.
“If he is not brave, then don’t be a candidate in this by-election. How are you going to answer questions in Parliament (as an MP)?
“This is an insult. If I become MP, we are the government, and I will deliver,” he said after the debate, held at Heritage Hotel in Tanah Rata.
Ramli declined to participate after Senator Bob Manolan, of PH, allegedly threatened Orang Asli village chiefs, telling them to vote for the ruling pact or risk losing their jobs.
During the debate, Universiti Kebangsaan Malaysia Professor Dr Faisal Hazis, who acted as moderator, asked the remaining candidates – Manogaran, and independents Sallehudin Ab Talib and Wong Seng Yee – about their plans should they win the Saturday polls.
Manogaran said he will sue the BN-ruled Pahang government for failing to protect Orang Asli.
“I will sue, regardless of whether I win or not. We will continue to assist and take care of the welfare of Orang Asli.”
Wong, who is a farmer, said he will fight to secure land for the community.
“I will discuss with the state government about gazetting the land on which Orang Asli live.”
Former lecturer Sallehudin said he will work on ensuring the community has better access to education.
“They lack education, and we want to help them so that they can elevate their socio-economic status.”
