TNB follows suit, suspends employee over social media remark against monarchy

PETALING JAYA: Tenaga Nasional Berhad (TNB) has suspended its employee over a remark allegedly made against the monarch on social media.

TNB, on its TNB Careline Facebook page on Tuesday (Jan 8), said that the suspension is pending investigation by the company over the matter.
"The statement made by the individual was made on her own accord, and it contradicts and is not in line with the company's principles.

"We apologise for what has happened," TNB said in a statement.

The TNB Careline Facebook was bombarded with messages by the public, calling the power supply company to terminate the employee over her alleged insensitive remark on Twitter.

Some commented that if no action was taken against her, they would “boycott TNB”.

Earlier Tuesday, consultancy firm Pemandu Associates suspended an employee who allegedly posted remarks laced with profanity against the monarchy on social media.

Pemandu said that it is taking the issue seriously, adding that an internal inquiry is being conducted.

This came after Cisco Asean decided to sack a worker for allegedly insulting the Yang di-Pertuan Agong on Facebook, after mounting public pressure.

Cisco Asean is the regional headquarters of the Silicon Valley-based networking, telecommunications and technology giant.
The remarks came in the wake of Kelantan Ruler, Sultan Muhammad V, announcing he was stepping down as the King on Sunday (Jan 6).- Star
