Umno supreme council member Lokman Noor Adam was arrested under the Sedition Act yesterday.
According to a statement by NGO ‘Pemantau Malaysia Baru’, which Lokman leads, he was detained over his remarks that the Pakatan Harapan government tried to protect those who killed firefighter Muhammad Adib Mohd Kassim.
Pemantau secretary Lisa Yahaya said Lokman was summoned to Bukit Aman to have his statement recorded over the matter, at 2pm yesterday, after which he was arrested.
“He was told that he would be detained under Section 4 (1) of the Sedition Act. He abided by the arrest order and promised to give his full cooperation to the police in their investigation.
“Following the arrest, Lokman was taken to several locations,” Lisa said in the statement, adding that Lokman was taken to the Dang Wangi police headquarters, where he spent the night at the lock-up there.
Lisa said Pemantau regretted Lokman’s arrest, saying it was not necessary to hold him in a lock-up overnight, as he had cooperated well with the police.
The NGO also urged supporters to gather outside the Dang Wangi police headquarters to show solidarity to Lokman.
