CAMERON POLLS | Pahang menteri besar Wan Rosdy Wan Ismail maintained that the BN state’s finances were healthy, enough to pay bonuses and even employ new staff.
This after Finance Minister Lim Guan Eng chided Pahang for owing the federal government RM3.1 billion, the highest among the 13 states, adding that it would struggle to develop Cameron Highlands because of this debt.
But in his speech to Felda settlers at BN stronghold of Sungai Koyan in Jelai today, Wan Rosdy denied that the state was in dire straits.
However, he did not address Lim’s debt figure.
“The federal government can pay their civil servants bonuses, so can we.
“And when the federal government laid off Special Affairs Department (Jasa) staff, the state government took them back in,” he said.
Jasa was a controversial propaganda unit shut down by the federal government after the May 9 elections. It was formerly parked under the Communications and Multimedia Ministry.
The Jelai assemblyperson added that the state’s budget surplus for 2019 was more than RM28 million.
Wan Rosdy urged Lim to stop “misleading” the people.
“He wants to cheat us again, do not be cheated,” he said.
Polling day for the Cameron Highlands by-election is set for Jan 26. It is a four-cornered contest between BN's Ramli Mohd Nor, DAP's M Manogaran and two independent candidates, farmer Wong Seng Yee and retired teacher Sallehudin Abdul Talib. - Mkini
