Wan Saiful dropped for '13 offences', claims Perlis Bersatu chief

Perlis Bersatu chief Ameir Hassan claimed today that Wan Saiful Wan Jan was dropped as state party secretary for “13 offences.”
Ameir also urged the Bersatu central leadership “to be fair” to the state chapter and not describe it as “problematic” without prior investigation.
“I dropped him (Wan Saiful) from his post because he has committed offences. I think there were 13 offences,” he told Malaysiakini.
However, he declined to discuss the nature of these offences, saying: “I can’t talk about it."
Ameir also declined to state whether Wan Saiful's preoccupation with his role as chairperson of the National Higher Education Fund board (PTPTN) was one of the 13 alleged offences.
Earlier today, he said that a press conference will be held on the matter at a later date.
Malaysiakini has contacted Wan Saiful for comment and is awaiting a response.
Ameir (photo) said yesterday that Wan Saiful was dropped as Perlis Bersatu secretary because he is preoccupied with his work at PTPTN and unable to attend to party commitments.
Soon after, Wan Saiful alleged that documents were falsified at the Perlis Bersatu office to make claims amounting to hundreds of thousands of ringgit.
He also claimed that he was offered money to award government contracts worth tens of millions of ringgit to a firm linked to the children of a Bersatu leader in the state.
Police later confirmed receiving Wan Saiful’s police report on the matter, and said that an investigation is underway.
'Not problematic'
Ameir also took issue with Bersatu secretary-general Marzuki Yahya indicating that the state chapter is problematic.
“We are not problematic. What is problematic is the state secretary, so Marzuki has to investigate and identify the problem.
“Don’t make random comments,” he told Malaysiakini.
When asked to respond to Wan Saiful's exposé yesterday, Marzuki said that there were issues with the state chapter, without elaborating.
He also stated that the party would investigate the allegations.
'Already resolved'
According to Ameir, Wan Saiful’s revelations concern old issues that have already been resolved.
He said that Wan Saiful had previously brought up the matter at a Perlis Bersatu leadership meeting where it was discussed in the latter’s presence.
“The forger had imitated the signature and used the treasurer-general’s letterhead.
“When Wan Saiful found out, he lodged a police report and brought the matter to my attention.
"We had a meeting as Wan Saiful asked for him (the alleged perpetrator) to be sacked,” he said.
Ameir also denied pressuring Wan Saiful to retract his police report.
For the record, Wan Saiful did not publicly name those who purportedly urged him to do so. - Mkini
