WHAT IS RM2 MILLION TO MUSA AMAN? EX-CM GETS A LUCKY BREAK, COURT ALLOWS HIM TO SEEK TREATMENT IN LONDON – WHILE SON YAMANI BACK IN KL FOR SWEARING-IN AS SIPITANG MP

THE Kuala Lumpur Sessions Court today allowed an application by former Sabah chief minister Musa Aman to release his impounded passport to enable him to seek treatment in London.
Judge Rozina Ayob allowed the application on condition that Musa only travel to Singapore and London during that period. Otherwise, he faces forfeiture of the bail.
She said Musa, 68, must report to the Malaysian high commission in Singapore. In London, he must report to the Malaysian high commission every three days he is there between January 23 and February 8.
“The accused must furnish to the court the address of his accommodation in Singapore and London before the passport can be released,” she said.

Rozina also ordered Musa to return the passport by February 11 at the latest, and said the surety was responsible for the accused and his whereabouts.
The court also allowed an application by deputy public prosecutor Raja Rozela Raja Toran for the imposition of a temporary bail of RM200,000 in two sureties for the release of the passport, with the bail sum to be returned upon Musa’s surrender of the passport to the court after he is back from treatment.
Rozina ordered Musa to report to the Malaysian high commission in London earlier if the day that he was required to do so was a public holiday.
“For example, if the third day is a public holiday, the accused must report on the second day, earlier not later,” she said when responding to a question on the matter from counsel Ridha Abdah Subri.
The court then set February 20 for mention of Musa’s case. Musa was also represented by counsel Francis Ng Aik Guan and Amer Hamzah Arshad.
On November 5, last year, Musa claimed trial to 35 counts of corruption involving US$63.3 million (RM263 million) in connection with timber concession contracts in Sabah. He was allowed bail of RM2 million in two sureties. – Bernama
Musa Aman’s son sworn in as Sipitang MP
Eight months after the 14th general election, Yamani Hafez Musa has been sworn in as the Sipitang MP – just nine days shy of the Jan 16 deadline.
Before today, he was the only MP in the 222-seat Dewan Rakyat who had not taken up his oath of office.
It was previously reported that Yamani was in the United Kingdom shortly after the May 9 general election.
Yamani, the son of former Sabah chief minister Musa Aman, was one of the five MPs from the state who quit Umno last month.
Besides Yamani, the other MPs who became independents are Ronald Kiandee (Beluran), Azizah Mohd Dun (Beaufort), Zakaria Edris (Libaran) and Rahim Bakri (Kudat).
However, the Sipitang MP was notably absent from the press conference when the move was announced.
Fulfilling duties
Yamani was sworn in today before Dewan Rakyat speaker Mohamad Ariff Md Yusof in the Parliament’s Special Chamber.
Congratulating Yamani, Ariff said he is certain that the Sipitang MP will fulfil his duties honourably as a lawmaker.
“As such, I hope the honourable (Sipitang) MP will make a good and beneficial contribution to the House and the country, and serve excellently,” the speaker said.
An official later told reporters that the Dewan Rakyat has not been officially informed of Yamani’s party status.
“He is (said to be) part of the five Sabah MPs who exited (Umno). We have not received any letter,” the officer said.
‘No press conference’
Reporters who waited outside the Special Chamber were requested to leave and also told that Yamani did not want to hold a press conference after the swearing-in.
“Okay, please dismiss, there is no press conference,” a Parliament officer said, before the order was repeated by an auxiliary police officer.
It was learned that Yamani then left the Parliament building by the back door.
Several reporters, unhappy at not being allowed to speak to Yamani, later went to Ariff’s office to seek clarification. They were told by an officer to speak to Dewan Rakyat secretary Roosme Hamzah.
Another officer, who declined to be named, later apologised and explained that there was no instruction to prevent reporters from interviewing Yamani.
