Yadim's new appointments in line with Islamic ideals: Mujahid

The new members of the Islamic Dakwah Foundation's (Yadim) board of trustees were selected for their ability to implement three ideals of the Pakatan Harapan government's Islamic values, said Mujahid Yusof Rawa.
The de facto Islamic Affairs minister in referring to the ideals, namely Rahmatan Lil Alamin, Maqasid Syariah and the Malaysia Model, said this was to ensure that Yadim would be able to uphold them in the foundation's way forward.
"Of course, as the person who suggested these personalities to the prime minister, I want those who sit on the Yadim board to uphold these three ideals.
"It is not the way I work to appoint just anyone and who cannot carry forward these ideas of ours.
"So this is my way to make sure that the administration of Islamic affairs portfolio, including Yadim, is able to implement these big ideals.
"That is why the new members have been chosen to fill the positions based on their capabilities," he said after handing over the letters of appointment to the 12 new members of the Yadim board of trustees in Putrajaya this afternoon.

Mujahid, who is also Amanah vice-president, was commenting on criticisms by certain quarters, including members of the opposition, against the new appointments.
This came after a list of the new board members went viral on social media showing that most of them came from Amanah and other Harapan parties.
Mujahid reiterated that the new board members were chosen solely based on their merit and it was a coincidence that they were also linked to Harapan parties.
"As I said before, the basis (of the appointments) was merit. It is only coincidence that those whom we found with merit are with certain political parties."
Asked about the absence of muftis and representatives from the Islamic Development Department (Jakim) for Yadim's new board, Mujahid said there was no "precedent" to make such appointments.
He also pointed out that Yadim now sits under the purview of Jakim and thus it did not need to have additional representation from Jakim on the foundation's board.

An aide to Mujahid later clarified that what the minister meant was that there was no provision in Yadim's constitution that required its board to include a mufti or Jakim representative.
On allegations that he had appointed a representative from DAP to the Yadim board when DAP was allegedly a party that did not recognise Islam's position vis-a-vis the federal constitution, Mujahid said he would not compromise on this.
He said stern action would be taken against those who continued to spread the "regressive" narrative of certain quarters' with a "narrow agenda".
During the ceremony, Mujahid handed the letter of appointments to new Yadim president Nik Omar Nik Abdul Aziz, deputy president Zolkharnain Abidin and 10 other board members.
Nik Omar is an Amanah member and the son of late PAS spiritual leader Nik Abdul Aziz Nik Mat, while Zolkharnain is Amanah's syariah affairs director.
The others included Selangor Amanah vice-chairperson (II) Shamsul Ma'arif Ismail and DAP assemblyperson for Paloh, Sheikh Omar Bagharib Ali. - Mkini
