KOTA KINABALU: The Election Court here has set aside six weeks over the span of four months to hear the dispute over the election results for the Sipitang seat.
Warisan candidate Noor Hayaty Mustapha had filed a case against Umno’s Yamani Hafez Musa, the son of former chief minister Musa Aman.
The trial will run from April 8 to 12, June 17 to 28, July 1 to 12 and July 23 to 31.
Judge Azhahari Kamal Ramli also set March 13 to hear Warisan’s discovery application to recount votes.
Yamani, a first-term MP, won the seat by 852 votes on a Barisan Nasional ticket, polling 12,038 against his closest challenger Noor Hayaty who obtained 11,186 votes.
Noor Hayaty was represented by counsel Chung Jiun Dau, Melanie Tann Mei Yan and Mohammed Fareez Mohammed Salleh, while Yamani was represented by counsel Rizwandean, Azhier Farhan Arisin and Mohammed Fareez Mohammed Salleh.
The Election Court here had on Oct 15 last year struck out the petition with costs.
Later, the Putrajaya Federal Court ordered the election petition filed by Noor Hayaty to be remitted to the Election Court for trial. - FMT
