After Nurul's resignation, PM to consider replacing PAC chief

Prime Minister Dr Mahathir Mohamad has agreed to consider replacing Public Accounts Committee (PAC) chairperson Ronald Kiandee with another lawmaker.
"Yes, we will think about it. We will find a good candidate.
"But at this moment he remains as the chairperson of PAC," he said at a press conference after launching the Love MY Palm Oil campaign at Pulau Carey today.
Mahathir was asked about Permatang Pauh MP Nurul Izzah Anwar's resignation from the PAC, which appeared to be in protest of Mahathir's decision to keep Kiandee in the role.
"This is not a legal matter, it is a promise made by the party. We, Pakatan Harapan, can do it (replace the PAC head) anytime," he said.
Yesterday, PAC member Wong Chen told Malaysiakini that the Harapan members of the committee had written a letter to the prime minister to express their unhappiness over Kiandee holding on to the post.
In its election manifesto, Harapan pledged to reserve the PAC chairperson role for the opposition.
After Kiandee joined the ruling coalition on March 15, opposition lawmakers proposed that he be replaced by Wanita Umno chief and Parit Sulong MP Noraini Ahmad.
However, Mahathir, who is also Harapan chairperson, had asked Kiandee to continue heading the committee.
Kiandee then said he would abide by Mahathir's instructions. - Mkini
