PARLIAMENT | Anwar Ibrahim (Harapan-Port Dickson) has confirmed that the head of a GLC implicated in PAS' alleged RM1.4 million payment to Sarawak Report editor Clare Rewcastle-Brown is his friend.
Responding to Awang Hashim (PAS-Pendang), Anwar said he has no problems clarifying the issue, without taking more time away from his debate of the royal address.
"Although it (the question) has nothing to do with the issue, I will entertain it, no problem. Rameli Musa is my good friend.
"He then chose to support PAS, particularly the present PAS president (Abdul Hadi Awang)," he told the Dewan Rakyat today.
Awang had asked Anwar to confirm whether Rameli – named as an intermediary between Rewcastle-Brown and Hadi – was his friend.
"I have never denied who are my friends. Even in PAS now I have many friends, not a problem," the PKR leader said.
The link between Rameli (above) and Anwar came into question after the former was said to have banked in RM1.4 million to Rewcastle-Brown as part of her out-of-court settlement with Hadi over a defamation suit.
PKR vice-president Rafizi Ramli previously poured scorn on PAS supporters who attempted to link Rameli to Anwar in an alleged attempt to create an impression that Hadi was being framed.
Rewcastle-Brown has since defended Rameli for playing the role of intermediary, after he had been summoned by the MACC to give his statement on the matter.
Hadi had previously denied that the RM1.4 million payment was made to Rewcastle-Brown. - Mkini
