Azmin said the result of the Semenyih by-election was a clear message from the rakyat.
PETALING JAYA: Pakatan Harapan’s defeat in Semenyih is a wake-up call that it should act immediately to fulfil the promises made to the people, especially the Malay and bumiputra communities, says Datuk Seri Mohamed Azmin Ali.
The Economics Affairs Minister said the result of the by-election was a clear message from the rakyat.
“The result was a demand that the Pakatan government immediately resolve the problems of the people without blaming any parties.
"We must act in a collective manner to fulfil the reformation and development agenda for the people,” he said in a statement Sunday (March 3).
Azmin, who is also PKR deputy president, said Pakatan must step up efforts to implement changes and be the source of strength for the people.
“Pakatan must be brave and not be hesitant in fulfilling its promises, especially on the Malay and bumiputra agenda, which is an integral part of the national agenda.
“We must do so without feeling apologetic or be fearful of criticism from others,” he added.
Azmin said the government will also take immediate initiatives and enhance the implementation of measures to ease the economic burden of the people.
The Economic Action Council, he said, would implement measures to reduce the cost of living, improve wages, alleviate poverty and increase home ownership among the people.
On Saturday (March 2), Barisan Nasional won the Semenyih seat with a 1,914 majority.
Barisan’s candidate Zakaria Hanafi secured 19,780 votes against Pakatan’s Muhammad Aiman Zainali, who obtained 17,866 votes.
PSM's Nik Aziz Afiq Abdul won 847 votes while independent candidate Kuan Chee Heng garnered 725 votes.- Star
