FIVE bank accounts belonging to an individual and four foundations linked to PAS have been frozen by as part of investigations into the RM90 million the Islamist party allegedly received from Umno.
A highly placed source in the Malaysian Anti-Corruption Commission told The Malaysian Insight that the amount came up to RM2.3 million.
The frozen accounts are part of the MACC’s investigations into the RM90 million PAS allegedly received from Umno ahead of the 14th general election last year. The funds are allegedly from state investor 1Malaysia Development Bhd.
PAS’ official bank accounts are not affected as MACC said there were no direct transactions between 1MDB and the party.
MACC believes the money was laundered before it was transferred to PAS leaders, the source said.
He also confirmed that MACC seized three vehicles – a Toyota Vellfire, Range Rover and a Mini Cooper –as well as a shoplot worth RM2 million.
This development comes two days after PAS secretary-general Takiyuddin Hassan denied any seizure of assets.
Takiyuddin was questioned two days ago over luxury cars and motorcycles he owned.
The source also confirmed that cash was seized as part of the investigations but would not reveal the amount.
“Cash was also seized but we cannot reveal it for now.
“There are still other PAS leaders, about seven more who will be called in as part of investigations and if needed, we will ask them to furnish supporting documents for the purchase of luxury cars in their names,” the source added.
After Takiyuddin, MACC yesterday questioned PAS spiritual leader Hashim Jasin, who was formerly Arau MP, in Perlis, and Kelantan exco Mohamed Nasir Che Daud, who is also former Kuala Krai assemblyman.
Hashim was asked to provide proof of purchase of a Porsche Cayman, which he did by giving anti-graft officers soft copies of documents.
Hashim had previously denied owning the Porsche worth RM100,000, saying his son bought the car using the approved permit reserved for MPs.
MACC will call several other PAS leaders to its offices in Terengganu and headquarters in Putrajaya.
Other PAS leaders questioned over the RM90 million are central committee member Nik Mohamad Abduh Nik Abdul Aziz and former deputy president Nasharudin Mat Isa, who were both questioned on February 8.
Former PAS vice-president Husam Musa, who is now with Amanah, was questioned two weeks later.
News of PAS receiving money from Umno first emerged in 2016 when whistle-blower website Sarawak Report alleged that the RM90 million came from 1MDB.
The issue surfaced again in February last year with a voice recording of Nik Abduh mentioning the transfer of RM2 million to PAS.
PAS president Abdul Hadi Awang later sued Sarawak Report editor Clare Rewcastle-Brown for defamation.
After reaching a settlement last month, MACC began its investigations into the allegations.
