Sementa assemblyperson Dr Daroyah Alwi has been appointed deputy speaker of the Selangor legislative assembly.
She is the second woman to hold this position after Hanizah Mohamed Talha who was deputy speaker for the 2008-2013 term.
Daroyah replaced Paya Jaras assemblyperson Mohd Khairuddin Othman who joined the Selangor cabinet in December to be in charge of Islamic affairs.
Since 2008, Selangor had consistently appointed a woman as either speaker or deputy speaker of the state legislative assembly.
Meru-born Doyarah, 56, used to practise dentistry before entering politics.
She is a second term lawmaker and deputy head of PKR Wanita. - Mkini
