DBKL to test run Jalan TAR pedestrian zone

PETALING JAYA: The federal territories ministry says a stretch of road along the iconic Jalan Tuanku Abdul Rahman (TAR) will be closed to traffic on weekends and public holidays from 8am to midnight beginning April 1.
Minister Khalid Samad said the partial road closure would be on a trial basis, as part of the Kuala Lumpur City Hall’s (DBKL) River of Life project.
The stretch of road affected will be from Jalan Isfahan near Sogo to Jalan Melayu.
“Only buses, taxis, fire engines, ambulances, police and enforcement vehicles will be allowed to pass when the roads are closed,” he said in a statement.
DBKL will also ensure that Lorong Tuanku Abdul Rahman and Lorong Gombak along Jalan TAR are clear of traders and obstructions.”
He said this would ensure that the movement of supplies for businesses could continue as usual.
Legal traders will be relocated to other areas around Jalan TAR once kiosks have been built for them.
“In an effort to clean up Lorong TAR, the night market and Ramadan bazaar there will be moved to a new location which will be announced soon,” Khalid said.
“I am confident that this decision will benefit all parties so that we can further develop Jalan TAR, the way the Golden Triangle in Bukit Bintang has been developed.”
Khalid previously said a decision would be made on the proposed road closure after obtaining feedback from stakeholders, especially hawkers and traders operating along that stretch.- FMT
