MIC today challenged Jelutong MP RSN Rayer to present evidence that the Pakatan Harapan government has constructed eight new Tamil schools in Penang.
According to MIC communications chief V Gunalan (photo above), Rayer should apologise should the latter fail to validate claims of the construction of the school made in the Dewan Rakyat yesterday.
“Rayer’s statement which claimed that Harapan built eight new Tamil schools in Penang is hilarious, and an attempt to confuse the rakyat.
“As far as we know, Tamil schools are working hard with the education minister to get the allocations promised to them during BN’s rule.
“Here, (he) says eight news schools have been built even though Harapan has not even administered the country for a year,” Gunalan said when contacted by Malaysiakini.
He called on Rayer to list out the names of the schools concerned and where they are situated.
“After BN was defeated at GE14, the number of Tamil schools in Penang is 28. Now, according to Rayer’s claim, there should be 36 Tamil schools. I hope Rayer can submit proof.
“If he fails to do so, he must make an open apology for lying and providing confusing facts,” Gunalan added.
Rayer made the claim concerning the eight new schools in the Dewan Rakyat yesterday.
“In Penang, Harapan has built new schools, five or six schools. Don’t twist the facts,” he said.
He said so when interrupting a supplementary question by Tapah MP M Saravanan, who was asking on the status of Tamil high schools, as promised by Harapan in its manifesto.
Rayer later stood up in the House and stated that Harapan had built eight new Tamil schools. - Mkini
