PETALING JAYA: An International Medical University (IMU) student has been instructed to be on home leave after anger erupted on social media when he made inappropriate comments on Facebook over the death of a local actress.
In a statement on Tuesday (March 12), IMU added that its management had provided immediate medical evaluation and behavioural counselling to the student.
"As an institution of higher learning, we believe it is important to instil respect and care for all human beings through education and fair treatment," the statement read.
On Monday (March 11), IMU announced that it would conduct an internal investigation into the matter.
There was an outpouring of anger after a Facebook user commented on a news story regarding the death of Emily Kong.
He suggested that women needed men to take care of them and that they should grant men sexual favours for driving them home safely.
In a later post, he boasted about supposed sexual conquests and made disparaging remarks about Chinese men.
He later issued an apology which many did not consider to be an apology.
Many social media users were upset and petitioned for him to be removed from studying medicine at IMU.- Star
