IN TYPICAL SNAKE-PIT POLITICS, HADI MAKES MAT HASAN LOOK LIKE A FOOLISH, OVER-EAGER BRIDE PANTING FOR ‘UNITY’ GOVT: IN CLEAR SIGNS, BETRAYAL ALREADY IN THE AIR, HADI PUBLICLY REMINDS UMNO THAT PAS IS ‘ALSO TIED’ TO DR MAHATHIR’S BERSATU

UMNO’S proposal for a unity government with PAS in four states was premature, said Abdul Hadi Awang.
The PAS president said there is still much to be discussed, such as the views of all Malay-Muslim parties and the views of the Bumiputera, before any unity government can be formed between the two parties.
“This is what PAS is fighting for – Islam Bumiputera. We are not tied to Umno alone, but also to Bersatu who are in the government, including Gagasan Sejahtera, which already merged with PAS, as well as other Islamic pressure groups,” he said during the opening of the Pidato Perdana Islam and Kerohanian in Telipok, Sabah, last night.
Hadi said PAS has enough experience in forming a unity government, saying the party joined a unity government in 1973 and was a component in Barisan Nasional in 1974 when it was formed.

Yesterday, Umno deputy president Mohamad Hasan proposed the formation of a PAS-Umno unity government in the four opposition states – Terengganu, Pahang, Kelantan dan Perlis.
He said the Umno-PAS government could be called “united ummah (community) government”, and the matter was was discussed during the technical committee meeting between the two parties on Tuesday.
“I discussed with PAS the other day that if possible, we should start with a unity government known as the united ummah government in Terengganu, Pahang, Kelantan, and Perlis.
“But in Perak and Kedah where there is only a narrow difference between BN-PAS seats and Pakatan Harapan (PH), we will ‘shake’ them (PH) so that they will not sit easy,” he said.
The PH-controlled states that are most threatened by the Umno-PAS team-up are Kedah and Perak.
In Kedah, PH holds 19 of the 36 seats in the state assembly, followed by PAS (15) and BN (2).
In Perak, PH holds 30 of the 59 seats in the state assembly, followed by BN (25), PAS (3), and one independent. -the malaysian insight

Perlis MB agrees with Umno-Pas coalition plan

KANGAR: The Perlis state government has agreed with Umno deputy president Datuk Seri Mohamad Hasan’s proposal to create a coalition government comprising Umno and Pas.
Menteri Besar Datuk Seri Azlan Man described the proposal as a “positive step” towards strengthening the cooperation between both parties.
“If the proposal (to establish a coalition) is true, then I think it is something good.
“However, I need to meet him (Mohamad) first to get more details,” he said when contacted today.
Azlan, who is currently in Saudi Arabia, was responding to news reports that Umno plans to establish a coalition government with Pas in four states administered by the two parties.
Mohamad was quoted as saying that the matter was still at a proposal stage and further discussions had yet to take place.
The four states were Perlis and Pahang which were administered by Barisan Nasional/Umno as well as Kelantan and Terengganu which were administered by Pas.
Mohamad had said at Umno’s level, a working committee on the proposed coalition government had already been established.
It would be headed by Umno vice-president Datuk Seri Mohamed Khaled Nordin who will coordinate with its Pas counterpart committee to be formed by the Islamic party.
Meanwhile, state exco member Nurulhisham Yaakob said a coalition government would unite the Malays.
“I agree and if I’m asked to relinquish my exco post and make way for a Pas (leader), I have no problems with that.
“We have to support good ideas. We cannot think about the party… we have to prioritise the Malays instead,” he said.
Perlis Pas commissioner Mohd Shukri Ramli, when contacted, said he would leave the matter to the party’s top leadership to decide.
“We will follow any decision made by the leadership,” he said.
Barisan Nasional currently holds 15 state assembly seats in Perlis, followed by Pas (two) and Pakatan Harapan (one). The remaining seat is held by an Independent state assemblyman. – NST
